Yaralawa privacy notice
Yaralawa is a school management system published by Azyntra. Last updated 17 August 2026.
Who holds what
This matters more than anything else on the page, so it comes first. There are two different sets of information and they have two different owners.
Your school's records about a child belong to the school. Marks, attendance, the timetable, the child's name and admission number: the school decides what is held and for how long, and Azyntra holds it on the school's behalf. If you want any of it changed or erased, the school decides, not us.
Your app account is ours. The email address you sign in with, your name, and the record that this account is linked to a school. You can delete that yourself at any time.
What the app collects
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address | It is how you sign in and how a one time code reaches you. |
| Your name | Shown to you in the app, and to the school office that invited you. |
| Password | Stored only by our identity service, hashed. Nobody at Azyntra can read it. |
| National Identity Card number, teachers only | Entered once, to find which school has invited you. It is matched against what the school already holds; we do not obtain it from anywhere else. |
| Invitation code | Issued by your school. It is how the app knows which children or classes you may see. |
That is the whole list. The app asks for no other permission than internet access. It does not use the camera, the microphone, contacts, files, or location, and it cannot: those permissions are explicitly blocked in the build.
What the app shows you
Once your school has invited you, the app displays the records that school holds and has decided you may see. For a parent that is their own children and no others: their timetable, their results, and school notices. For a teacher it is their own classes, timetable and the marks they are responsible for. The app never shows a child to somebody the school has not linked to that child.
What is kept on your phone
Your sign in tokens, in the phone's own secure storage, which is the keychain on iOS and the keystore on Android. They are what keeps you signed in. Signing out or deleting your account removes them. No child's records are stored on the phone for use offline.
Who else sees it
There is no advertising in this app, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. We do not sell or share anything with anybody for their own purposes. Three services are involved in running it:
- Resend delivers our email, so it handles your address and the message when a code or an invitation is sent to you.
- Expo serves application updates, so your device contacts Expo to ask whether a newer version exists. That request carries the app version and platform, not your identity or any school data.
- Oracle Cloud hosts the servers.
Each acts on our instructions and may not use anything for its own purposes.
How long it is kept
Your app account is kept while you use it, and goes when you delete it. Education records are kept by the school for the period Sri Lankan law requires, which is not a period we may shorten on the school's behalf. Records of who did what in the system are kept as an audit trail, because a school must be able to say years later who entered a child's mark; after an account is deleted those entries no longer carry the person's name.
One thing does survive a deletion: an internal random identifier for the account. It is not your name, your address or anything you typed, and it cannot be used to reach you. It is kept for a single reason, which is to make sure a deleted account can never be reopened by accident.
Deleting your account
In the app: More, then Delete my account. Without the app: write to privacy@yaralawa.com from the address your account uses. Full details, including exactly what is removed and what the school keeps, are on the account deletion page.
Your rights
Under Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act you may ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be erased. Requests about a school's records are decided by that school; write to the school office, or to our Data Protection Officer at privacy@yaralawa.com and we will route it and record the outcome. Requests about your app account we handle ourselves.
Children
This app is for adults. Its users are teachers and parents or guardians, and accounts are created only by them. Children do not sign in and are not the audience for it, although the records shown in it are about them. Nothing in the app is directed at a child and there is no advertising or profiling of anybody.
